John Haines

John has served Scouting as Assistant Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, and Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner, District Commissioner.   He is currently an Assistant Council Commissioner for the Alamo Area Council.   He has completed Wood Badge and Powderhorn adult training.   John is a member of the Order of the Arrow and has received the Commissioner's Arrowhead Honor and District Award of Merit.    He has served on the staff of Merit Badge University for many years and has served as Chairman of the event for the last several years.

John has participated in several high adventure experiences to Philmont, Bahamas Seabase, and a Colorado High Adventure.  This involved hiking 85 miles, sailing a catamaran and hiking & fishing in the Rocky Mountains.

He was the recipient of the 2012 Silver Beaver award for outstanding volunteer service to the Boy Scouts of America.   In addition, the Alamo Area Council, Boy Scouts of America was honored to have John represent the values of our Scouting community at the 2013 United Way's volunteer appreciation event "Night of a Thousand Stars".

In 2015, John was recognized as one of twelve USAA's Volunteer of the Year for his dedication and contributions to the Boy Scouts of America in San Antonio.  In addition, the Director of the FBI awarded John the FBI Director's Leadership Award for his vision and community leadership in promoting youth leadership growth within Texas.  Micheal De los Santos, CEO of Alamo Area Council, joined John in receiving the award at the J Edgar Hoover Building in Washington DC.

John is a board member of the Woods of Shavano Homeowners Association.   During the holidays, John can be seen playing Santa Claus for various charity organizations throughout San Antonio.

 John spends his free time with his wife Barbara and his children Megan and Corey.
