Scouts BSA work towards Eagle-Required ‘Personal Management’ Merit Badge

The Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council is pleased to announce the expansion of the ‘Financial Literacy and You(th)!’ program, with support from The USAA Foundation, Inc. Media is invited to see the Scouts BSA in action on April 6, 2019 from 11:00am – 11:30am at University United Methodist Church at 5084 de Zavala Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78249.

The USAA Foundation, Inc., is the official sponsor of the ‘Personal Management’ Merit Badge and presenting sponsor of the ‘Personal Management’ Merit Badge Academy. This Eagle-required badge is one of the most difficult badges to obtain, taking at least 13 weeks to earn.

“We are thankful for this support that has the potential to impact San Antonio’s youth and the community for generations,” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive, Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council. “And at the same time, it’s good to see our Scouts having fun learning financial literacy skills that will make them better future citizens.”

Through ‘Financial Literacy and You(th)!’, Scouts BSA boys and girls pursuing the ‘Personal Management’ merit badge meet once a month over 3 months and spend 14 hours learning financial, time, and project management skills. They develop an understanding of core financial literacy concepts such as annual percentage rates, budgeting, credit reports, credit scores, and investments. Not only is this an inviting way for Scouts BSA youth to earn a much sought-after merit badge, it also gives local youth curious about working in the business field a general idea of what to expect.
