Alamo Area Council’s Michael de los Santos Accepts Honor on behalf of Volunteers in Service to Youth

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 5, 2019) – The Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council (BSA), which welcomes boys and girls from 5-20 years of age in all our programs, is honored to announce that our Scout Executive, Michael de los Santos, is the recipient of Triune Masonic Lodge #15’s inaugural Community Builder Award for his service to youth. This prestigious award was established by the Grand Lodge of Texas so that lodges can formally recognize outstanding non-Masons who have distinguished themselves through their service to the community, local and state governments, places of worship, or to humanity at large.

Media is invited at 7 p.m. to see Michael receive the Community Builder Award at the Triune Masonic Lodge #15 located at 1914 Basse Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78213.

“As an Eagle Scout, with Scouting legacy through my father and grandfather, I know the value of Scouting. What we learn in Masonry is brotherly love and charity. Michael de los Santos is an emblem of those values through Scouting!,” said Eagle Scout William Badders, Master of the Triune Masonic Lodge #15.

Michael de los Santos, a Brownsville, Texas native and a graduate from St. Mary’s University School of Business in San Antonio, serves as Chief Executive Officer and Scout Executive at the Alamo Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. Since August 2011, Michael coordinates the efforts of over 35 staff in the Alamo Area Council, BSA, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.

“Michael is a role model for all Scouting youth to look up to and his leadership has been there to support youth both in San Antonio and across the United States. Michael is not being given this award…he has earned it! Who else has the biggest impact on our community and the future of our youth?” continued Mr. Badders.

Michael began his professional Scouting career 25 years ago as an intern at the Alamo Area Council and, since then, has been in service to the Boy Scouts of America in ever-increasing levels of responsibility. Prior to his current position, de los Santos served successfully as the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Field Services at the Grand Canyon Council, BSA, in Phoenix, Arizona.

“Thank you to the Triune Masonic Lodge for this honor and for recognizing the impact Scouting has on building community through our youth. I accept this recognition on behalf of all the volunteer leaders I’ve had the privilege to work alongside for the past 25 years. I love what I do,” said Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive, Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council.

Michael is also a SAMMinistries volunteer, Delta Sigma Pi Alum, and involved with the Downtown Rotary Club of San Antonio. Although a self appointed “workaholic," Michael does enjoy cooking, watching movies, playing golf, backpacking, and spending time with his wife Elizabeth and family.
